h= distance falling
k= knife

then the equasion:- g+h+k= "ouch that hurts"

or:- Household tip Number 484

"when carrying sharp kitchen knives, a tight hold should be kept on them, as
should one of them fall and strike the foot point first, a great "ouch" may
result".

Actually, I am quite OK. The knife (a small paring knife) simply slipped from
the fingers and stuck in the ridge of sole that sticks out round a shoe. Near
miss though, as I was only wearing carpet slippers.
