i'm trying to make a template for the glitter ball. I have a
protractor and I am measuring 72 degrees from the first line. But
when I get to the fifth line it is 90 degrees from the first. I am
measuring from line to line so how can that be?

Being an expert at this mistake, I can assure you that you are looking at
your protractor the wrong way round. Wot I mene is, you're looking two
degrees on the wrong side of the seventy, which is 68. If you see wot I
mene.

Never mind! I was using the protractor wrong. I figured it out.
This is going to be a challenge, I marked the wrong side of the CD.
LOL! One would think I hadn't made one before.

No, I wasn't using the little hole to put in the center of the larger
CD hole. Now it's ok, but I can see it's going to be a pain to mark
12 CDs with five lines and get them all in the right place even using
the template. Last time I eyeballed it, but some didn't quite come
together. If you look close at the pic of the one I did on Jim's site
you can see that. I want this one to be perfect. :-) As do you I
know. :-)

I had convinced myself I was smart enough to get what's needed and do it.
Now you are scaring me again.
|
|
I thought it got harder. Sometimes my tape would fall off,
sometimes the glue would stick to my fingers and not the CDs.

Yes, put five lines on every single CD, on the edge at least. I'm
lining up with the protracter from the center to the edge and marking
them. They're on the inside and won't show.
But if you have a mess on yours it won't show from a distance,
especially if the wind is twirling them a little. :-)

LOL! Ok, I have the first half taped. It was much harder because I
was trying to be precise. And a couple were too close and a couple
were too far apart and I had to keep readjusting the tape. I have a
roll of OLD masking tape and it was in the garage in the summer heat
and I'm afraid it's sticking too much. I think I need to buy a new
roll before I start taping on the outside to put the two globes
together. Not looking forward to the gluing part this weekend either,
but I'll get it done. It may not be perfect but it's going to be a
lot better than my first one. :-) I kinda wonder how many people are
making them, probably not many.

I plan to buy what I need on Monday, and probably make one during the coming
week.

Gee, Dalin, after reading your posts, and those of others, I
may just do the mousepad first. I meant to either get the
materials or bring the file to a place that makes them--and,

That makes two of us, MJ! :-( I think I am getting less
adept at such things as I get older....

It's not hard. I was just trying to make mine perfect. The first
time I did it I literally threw it together just to see if I could do
it and it came out pretty darned nice. I didn't use a protractor, I
didn't measure anything. Some of the CDs overlapped each other a
little is all when I joined them together. But it hung on my back
deck for a couple of years, shining, catching the light, it was very
pretty. I think it fell off during a bad snowstorm and broke. Maybe
the cold temps made the glue crack.
I'll help you. And Jim's directions are easy to follow since he was
kind enough to illustrate it all. :-) I'd be happy to send you my
template I made if you want to be really precise. The only big
problem is that sometimes you need three hands! But I did my first
one without help.
I suppose Jim may not know, but it just seems it would be a nice
tribute to have them hanging in lots of gardens, decks, etc.
Someone made a post on afpf with a header "I made the CD ball" and I
don't know who it was because I wasn't on my computer last week. But
a few other people said they were going to try and I just thought it
was such a nice joining thing, joining us together in remembrance,
when we would look out and see the lights shining from it.

I didn't realize I needed that many CD's so have to find some more.
Unfortunately I dumped some from programs I didn't have on computer anymore
when I moved. Hopefully this weekend I can get the materials I need at
least.

of course, I forgot both. But now, thanks to David, I have a
copy of the collage....
BTW, I was about to delete some back posts and ended up losing
almost all the posts here. :-( (Sometimes Nestscape gets
into an endless scroll mode. I'd marked everything read and
was going to go back and unmark all the stuff I wanted to
save. I hate it when it starts scrolling to the top, and
nothing will stop it--except leaving.)

I think so, too. I might just need your template--and hope
Leah will even begrudgingly lend me her hands. Oh!!!! A
momentary idea: Leah could probably build it very easily. It
was only a brief thought, though, cuz if will mean more if I
do it.
**Dalin**...
|
Yes, it's that you did it. It will mean more to you. Doesn't matter
if it comes out crooked, it will still reflect the sun and just be a
reminder of someone whom we all loved very much.
