Joy...
I posted in another thread how I had problems trying to set up a network
between my old and new computer. I also mentioned the problems with the CD
drive/burner.

Once I saw I couldn't burn a CD to help me network, I took out the blank CD
and reinserted the musical one I had been playing. The drawer opened and
shut just fine, and the computer says the CD is playing, but no sound is
coming out!

Hold your ears.

Jean B....
Unbelievable, Joy! Your problems are supposed to be ceasing.

Dink...
Open the volume control. Make sure "Volume Control" "Wave" and "CD
Audio" are not muted and the sliders are all mid-volume or higher.

Joy...
I keep telling myself it could be worse, and other people have a lot worse
problems. Most of the time I manage to convince myself. ;-)

Jean B....
Yes, I am finding that useful too--not that I have much reason

Joy...
Thanks, Dink. I'll save that tip for future reference. Shortly after I
posted that, I visited afpf. Someone there posted a link. I clicked on it,
and it froze OE. I had a terrible time getting rid of it, using
ctrl-alt-del. Then I tried to reopen it and it froze again. Finally I shut
down the computer and went to eat dinner. When I rebooted after dinner, the
CD player worked just fine.

Re-booting is one of the standard ways to try to fix Windows problems.

Jean B....
This is the NEW computer?
Yes, I know. And it often works. I just wish it worked on my printer.

Jean B....

Joy...
Yes. The old one stopped recognizing the CD drive a couple of days before I
set up the new one.
Hehe. I wondered about that.... (I only chuckle because I'm
not a geek, so it is a nice feeling when I actually remember
something like that and someone with a lot more knowledge says
it too.

to be pondering that now. But we see folks have much worse
problems than we do, so even though we may kvetch, we also
realize we are lucky.
