After coming to the conclusion that we are not getting enough fruits or
veggies into our diet, I decided to buy a juicer.
We are doing very well, so far. Stan has been really good about drinking
strange colored "stuff". LOL
Yup, david, he even drank kale last night. What is kale, you ask? I have
no idea. I just found a juice recipe for it and was told it was good for
us.
Oh, and BTW...we had the Tofurky last night. The dogs love it.

Speaking of juice, the price of orange juice is going up 50 cents a
gallon because of the shortage in Florida!

Been juicing all manner of things for more than thirty years.
But - often use the remaining pulp in recipes to avoid wasting the fiber.
Sue...
|
Yeeeeeeeees! I would love to do that. I always think what a waste it is to
throw away the pulp.'

ok, how much scotch was mixed in with the kale...? :) I think kale is
similar to spinach? I assume the dogs didn't get much tofurkey to eat,
Anne Jackson...
|
More akin to cabbage, David, being a brassica.
The curly leaves are usually chopped and used in soup (also called
'kale' by the older generation in Scotland) or broth (Scotch broth!)

I tried the recipe on the back of the package, and it was lacking something.
I really need to find a recipe I like.

Boy, what I would do for a farmer's market. Of course, we do have produce
stands all over the place. And, yes, we do shop there.
But, we went to Whole Foods, close to Atlanta. What a trip! I could have
spent hours there. And also didn't have to spend money on lunch, as each
section had "freebies".
Now there is a Traders Joes. Close by Whole Foods. I wanna go! Now!

Yeah, I heard that on this morning's news. It always tickled us because
juice was always so expensive in Florida.

I suspect it helps if you start with a veggie or fruit you like if it isn't
juiced. ;-)

Check on FoodNetwork.com
I know that Paula Deen does great things with greens.
Just do a search once you get there.

because I'm sure that stan just loves the stuff and cleaned his plate...
...
i do admire what you're doing... i'm not there yet... but I do drink V8 3
times a day... does that count?
Sue...
|
V-8 is good. My son, Lil. Mattie's idea of a vegetable is corn, potatoes
and catsup. I told him to at least drink V-8....even if he has to add
vodka.
Actually Stan didn't mind the tofurky. I did!

I believe kale grows in the ocean...
Anne Jackson...
|
No, Paco, kale is a brassica, like cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and
wallflowers....
Anne Jackson...
|
Yes, wallflowers are also brassicas. Can be a problem if you ever get
'club root' in your garden soil....
**Dalin**...
|
club root? I sometimes get worms in my tomatoes. Of course
being Scottish you don't speak English.
Anne Jackson...
|
Dalin! You're teasing! My English is better than that of many English!
If you don't grow brassicas, you'll never have a club root problem.
So few people grow their own vegetables these days...

I think thats kelp. Probably good for you too.
Ha!
Alginate, a kelp-derived carbohydrate, is used to thicken products such as
ice cream, jelly, salad dressing, and toothpaste, as well as in manufactured
goods.
Isn't Wikipedia a marvelous thing?

lemmee tell ya' about men..... ya' see, stan really hates that stuff....
but he has these romantical thoughts about you, ya' see.... so he'll
purtend thet he likes whatever you fix.... :) that's how guys are...

Norma...

You are forcing me to remember that for two weeks in November I will be
eating "healthy".
Not as healthy as you, because I will argue with my daughter over just
how much salad I can consume without spitting up....or spitting out.
LOL
Norma
**Dalin**...
|
Ummm why two weeks in Nov.? Are you going visiting with your daughter
again? And those lovely granchildren? Mine can speak French now you
know.
|
|
**Dalin**...
|
Well darn! The recipe sure looked good. We've had frozen kale
before, I served it like spinach with a little butter and a little
vinegar on it and it was pretty good. But I honestly don't think I
could drink it as a juice. Musta been an awful color!
Dalin
Sue...
|
Yuppers. Considering it was juiced with carrots. LOL
sue
**Dalin**...
|
That's even worse! And Stan actually drank it? Boy, did you have to
stand there with a whip or something?
|
|
|
**Dalin**...
|
And the creme cheese. Yogurt maybe?
**Dalin**...
Sue...
|
Wasn't bad. I also put in a tomato and an apple.
Boy, do I feel healthy!
sue
|
|
Lots of saturated fat in it. Sue is trying to eat healthy.
Dalin
**Dalin**...
|
Kale and an apple amongst other things. I think I need some Tums and
my bed! LOL! Just thinking about it ....
Sue...
|
No meat in her house?
sue
Norma...
|
Lots of chicken and fish. No candy, cookies, white potatoes. Rice
breads because my poor girl developed an allergy to wheat/gluten.
Loads of fresh California fruits and veggies. Vegetarian hamburgers
and sausage patties. Egg substitute. Caffein free teas and coffee.
There will be cake for my birthday, though. :) No beef, no pork,
no gravies. This is not the way I raised her! LOL

Hey, Norma!
Come-onna my house, my house-a come on; I'm gonna give you ca-andy.
We could even go to Dakota's for a steak.
