How are you all doing on the glitter ball?

**Dalin**...
I have two halves taped together, ready to be glued. Top is glued.
First half messy, second half on the right much better.

**Dalin**...

NOspam...
Haven't even started mine, Dalin -- I used most of my spare cd's on
the mobile hanger ... so I need to wait until I get more!
I've bookmared the site with Jim's instructions, though :O)

Sue...
We have one half dry and the other sitting drying overnight. Then we can
put it together.
sue

**Dalin**...
I'm a little behind you. The masking tape was old and too sticky. My
second half worked much better. I almost feel like doing the first
half over, but I don't have any more CDs. What kind of glue are you
using?

I also noticed the little edges around the inside circle, well some
are colored. The old CDs were clear colored. If I make another I
will pick CDs with clear inside circles. But this will be nice when
it's done.

When you finish, probably before I do, can you put up a picture?

Mick was working on his second one too, but he hasn't posted in
several days. I hope everything is ok with them.

If I ever make another I'm going to use a glue gun. I think it would
be neater and easier.

Happy night in those mountains Sue and Stan. Getting colder now?

Here's the site with directions Jeanette.

Several of us are making it to honor Jim Everman who died on Oct. 7.
We sort of thought it would be nice to have them hanging all over the
world. The other group afpf is doing it too. It's nice to be able to
use old CDs and make something pretty. It really sparkles in the sun.

Joy...
I had both halves taped and glued. This morning I took off the tape. One
of the CDs I used didn't have any printing on the opposite side, and someone
had used a Sharpee to mark one side. I put the other side on the outside of
the ball, meaning the tape was on the side that was written on. The silver
peeled off with the tape, so I have to replace that CD. I tested packing
tape on a CD I'm not using, and it didn't take off the silver, so that's
what I'll use when I have to put tape on the outside to tape the two halves
together.

**Dalin**...

Sue...
Stan used the Goop that Jim suggested.
We will post a picture when we are done. Uh....not to close up, though. LOL
Yuppers. The nights are getting colder. They days are glorious.
sue

**Dalin**...
LOL! I'll post one too - not too close up.

Days here about 65, nights down into low 40s. It finally stopped
raining. The past few days have been the nicest all summer! - now
that summer is over. Geeee.....

Joy...
Mick may be spending some time either in person or on the phone visiting
with Donna. I got a postcard from her today, with an added note from Big Al
& the Silver Fox.
Same thing happened to me Joy after I had the half all glued together.

mmj1...
So did I. Made my walk to the mail boxes worthwhile.

**Dalin**...
Thanks Joy, I had forgotten she was going over there to visit.

Dalin

I had to start over because the CD that lost the backing was the one
all the others were taped to. :-(

I have both parts taped together now and glued. I'll remove the tape
tomorrow and pray that the silver doesn't come off. If I can wait
that long! The longer the tape stays on I think the harder it is to
get off.

Dalin

Joy...
That's the same one the silver came off of on mine. However, I was able to
get it off without completely disassembling the half. Two of the joints
hadn't glued properly, so I replaced the middle one and re-glued those
joints at the same time. I'll peel off the tape tomorrow and see what
happens. The other half came out just fine. Of course, I suspect that
putting the two halves together and then peeling off the tape are the
hardest parts of all.

Incidentally, after buying a protractor, which wasn't anything like the one
I had when I took geometry, I discovered it was too big and couldn't figure
out how to use it, so I just eyeballed it.

Dalin

**Dalin**...
You know, I don't think it really makes any difference. I was so
exact on this one, and yet still when I taped the top half to the
bottom half I had a couple of CDs slightly overlapping others. Who
can see from a distance? Mine is ready tomorrow to have the tape
removed and it will be done. Providing the tape comes off without any
silver backing. If it doesn't I'm going to scream because I don't
have any more CDs and am running out of glue.

**Dalin**...
I think it is easier to just start the half over. :-)

If Jim could see us I imagine he would be laughing his head off.
I notice on his web site he had a couple of good laughs about it and
some problems too. :-)

Dalin

Jean B....
Waiting seems to have it's benefits. Now I am gathering I
might as well not use a protractor. This is good. New you
and Joy et al. can solve the peeling problem....

Jean B....
Um, someone's gonna get around that peeling thing and tell us
before I start making one, right?

Anne Jackson...
I would suggest using 'low tack' craft tape. I don't have any,
but I'm going to try sticking the masking tape to my tee shirt
before I apply it to the CD. It's worth a try, surely?

I'm also going to try to molish a 'hanger' from a piece of an old
wire coat-hanger, and fix that inside, before I hang it up....

**Dalin**...
Oh I wish I'd thought of that. Next one I make. I'm positive the
third one will be the best yet. I just have to wait until I get 12
more CDs. :-)

Jean B....

Joy...
Well, when you put each half together, the tape is (or should be) on the
side that has the printing on it, which will be inside the ball. So it
isn't a problem. I tried clear packing tape on an extra CD and it didn't
peel, so I can use that for the rest. However, I can't figure out how I can
tape it and glue it to put the two halves together. I can't put the tape on
the inside, obviously, and if I tape the joints, how do I get the glue on?
Dalin?
Yes, I saw your suggestion and will try that too. I don't
want that surface peeling off.

I'd ask how exactly you intend to bend the hanger, but it
might be a tad hard to explain.

**Dalin**...
Use new 3/8" masking tape, don't stick it too tight and don't get any
glue on it where you have to pull the tape hard to get it off the
glue.

Dalin

Joy...

Jean B....
I'll keep my eye out for answers! :-)
How do you tape and glue it to get the two halves together?

Sue...
Stan taped it on the outside and just glued around the tape.
sue

Joy...
I had a hard time finding a protractor and Goop. Now I have both, and I
hope to start this evening. If not, I'll start tomorrow evening.

**Dalin**...

Joy...

Sue...
Funny, I found the Goop and Stan found the protractor. Good thing, cause I
have no idea how to use it.
Sue

Joy...
I'm going to have to dredge my memory. High School geometry was a loooong
time ago.

I didn't get started tonight, but I hope to do it tomorrow.

Chakolate...
Actually, you will probably have better luck just eyeballing it.
I had too until I got the postcard. I was thinking of emailing her, unless
she hadn't heard about Jim. Then I got the card. I wonder if Mick and Big
Al know?

Anne Jackson...
Mick knows, because I e-mailed Wendy. They'd surely tell Big Al.

**Dalin**...
Yes, I just found out she was there. Did Big Al and the Silverfox
come to see her too? I think all you had to do to entertain her was
show her all those nice policemen in uniform.

I hope you all had a nice time. :-)

Joy...
Yes, of course they would. And they'd tell Donna, too.

**Dalin**...
Mick does. He made a post with a picture of his first glitter ball
and said he was working on a better one. The picture is on the blog.

Dalin

Joy...
Duh. I even looked at it. Well, they say the memory is the first thing to
go. Or is it the second? I forget. ;-)
When I started the second half again all I had was aol CDs and they
are all a dark blue on the inside. I would have preferred light
colors. And some of the inner rings are colored and show on the
outside. On Jim's example they were all clear plastic in the middle.
David is going to save CDs for me so I can start a THIRD one. But I
hope to finish the second tomorrow or the next day except for letting
it sit overnight to harden.

I did all the work on mine and I'm a densa so I hope you will ohhh and
ahhhh for mine too.
