FTM: deluxe or collectors edition

There is an automatic update feature that periodically asks if you want to
update. The current version is 6.0 and it has allowed me to update free of
charge within the minor updates, From version 6.0.0.105 to version
6.0.0.110 for example. I haven't yet updated to a major version yet, from
6.0.0.110 to 7.0.0.0 for example, so I don't know if that is free or not,
but I highly doubt that the major version updates are free. However, since
the original purchase was only $29.95, my guess is that the major version
updates are probably low cost as well. Just guessing, but $19.95 more or
less.

Hi Craig,
To add to what James and Jeremy have told you concerning Legacy Deluxe.
I was sure that Legacy SE will allow you to print however it will not
allow you to create a PDF file, Legacy deluxe does.
Up grades within version are free, the latest version is 6.0 and when
you download the current version you ought to get build 6.0.0.110
When version 7 comes out anyone wanting to stay with the Deluxe version
will need to pay for the upgrade and this has in the past been about
$20.00USD which is cheaper than any upgrade in FTM.
Also on the subject of Legacy there is a user group as well so if you
get stuck on something that's the place to go.
Legacy keep an eye on most of what is said about the program and if any
issue comes up normally they will look into it and see if they can find
what the problem is or offer a solution.

Yes, they've been very helpful.

I'm comparing the deluxe to the collectors edtion of family tree maker
16. The only difference I see is the collectors edition includes the
Official Guide + 3 Months extra to ancestory.com. Is the Official
Guide worth getting. Its an extra $30 but after rebate the difference
between the 2 programs is $20. I usually don't read manuals so was
wondering if it had good information that may be hard to figure out
from the program.

My advise: Buy only the program CD. No deluxe or collectors edition.

The deluxe comes with 9 months access to ancestry.com thats why I was
thinking about that version.

And a load of extra cds?
Check the difference in price between the basic prog plus an Ancestry sub or
the deluxe.... Then, if you think Ancestry will be useful to you, let that
decide for you.
I've been using FTM for years, have always found the instructions in the
Help file sufficient.
