ken gracia...
Help please.
I am using Legacy and Family Tree Maker programs.

My question is:
I was registered at birth with Surname Townsend. I have since found out that
my Parternal Father was surname Gracia. I have registered my surname now to
Gracia.

Is the a way that I can show both surnames together in either program.
Besides I have married twice. Children to one marriage only.

In Legacy there is the Alternate Name group (AKA). IT is the symbol
with three people at the bottom of each group and next to the surname in
the individual edit group.

Look under Legacy help for AKA or Name/Alternate for more information.

I have a similar problem. I was adopted and have found my birthparents.
But how I add them is a huge problem. I was able to do it at one time
in FTM, but it got so complicated that I just ended up making two
separate files. One for birthfamily, and one for adopted family. Also,
I don't know if I should use my name at birth on the birthfamily one, or
my legal name. Very confusing!

if I was doing your tree in FTM 2006 I would change you basic name to
your birth name

your "legal name" can vary all the way through your life
so it would be AKA

My g grandfather ws twice married

so on his page I can select my granny

Menu >> People >>> Other Parents >>
Mary Jones (N) Edward Jones (N) = natural

Helen Elizabeth Bliss had (U) for unkown so I just used the drop down
menu to change it to (S) for step
there is also a button for [ create new parents ]

choices

Natural
Adopted
Foster
Unknown
Step
Family Member
Private

to accommodate even more family history details from census returns

I would like to see Employer (for live in servants)
and Master (for live in apprentices) on the next version

bit out of date I see

but I am still looking for living BLISS JONES descendants
who were raised by their aunty and uncle in London

Hi Ken,
In Legacy you can use the AKA ( Also Known As ).
In the person view this happens to be the seventh icon from the left,
just click on it and then click on Add and enter the AKA then click on
save, then click on close, that's it.
Simple as.
Sorry not sure about FTM, you may have to put this info in the notes.
Hope this is of some help,
David
