Okay I got a new question....
There was an article (given to me by a relative) of this Rancho in the
Ventura Star (Ventura County, California). As of that print (2001), there
was no status of the house that was on the ranch about whether it may or may
not become a historical landmark. Should I contact the newspaper/writer of
the story and see what happened?

You've got nowt to lose by contacting the paper. Either they'll have
no more information or they'll have some more. They may know someone
who does know something. If you don't ask, you won't know.

Thanks! I will try and track this person down and also ask the paper for
this information. Do you think I might have to pay for it though? Hmmm... Oh
well, I probably will pay whatever they asked anyways, This Rancho and house
were very important in my family's life. I'm already gonna buy the books
available on it, too.

A straight enquiry to a newspaper about an article or feature doesn't
normally attract a fee. It's possible that the paper would be
interested in doing a follow up piece as a result of your enquiry, but
that's about all.

I've enquired about it via e-mail. I'll let y'all know how it goes.
