Very interesting computer studies of this topic are discussed at:

A bad flaw in the theory is based on the assumption that people from
the whole world mix at a uniform rate. I think there are still some
pure blood New Zealand and or Australian natives. They migrated there
about 85,000 years ago and hence are not that closely related to the

And Native Americans migrated here between 20,000 and 10,000
years ago, depending on the sources referenced.
So while it's numerically possible for every human on earth to
have a common ancestor only 5,000 years back, they don't.

Just curious ...
By extrapolation, how far into the future will all human beings, then on the
planet, be descended from one of us in this forum?

In the original report they indicated if you allowed higher rates of
migration the 5000 might well be 2000 - so presumably from now something
well less than 2000

rest of the world. The common ancestor has to go back to before that
migration. DNA evidence put the last common female to about 150,000
years ago. The male line has also been calculated the Y-chromosomal
Adam and mitochondrial Eve are separated by at least 30,000 years, or
many hundred generations.
This shows again even with the best of computers and the best of
programs GIGO. Garbage in garbage out.

Does the computers take into account the near extinction of mankind 75,000
years ago when the Mt. Toba super eruption took place?

A common adage among computer users, dating from long before I got
seriously involded in 1970, is "Garbage in, garbage out".
A variant of this thought is " If it's printed on lineprinter paper, it
MUST be true".

Obviously Hugh, that variable would have to have been programmed in.
