This is likely to be pretty hopeless, but I'm trying to track down a
song that I think got airplay on easy listening stations a few decades
ago (60s? 70s?). It may have been more recent, but I think I recall it
on my parent's radio. The only lyric I can remember is a single word
"celebrate", repeated 3 times, and it might very well have been "sail

Three Dog Night
Sail Away
Randy Newman
Both repeate the phrase 2 times, not 3. And neither
really fit your description of "middle ambient section"
or "mostly instrumental". But the time period seems
about right, 60's and 70's.
Rick Springfield had something with a bunch of
"Celebrate" in it.

away" instead. :-) There were other lyrics, but not all that many.
The song was mostly instrumental, and was a strange (maybe even for the
time) mix of what nowadays I'd almost call new age or even ambient, and
classical. It had a distinct middle section that was a sharp musical
break from the rest, maybe more classical than ambient. Unfortunately
that's all I can remember. I heard a snatch of it recently in a crowded
restaurant, and of course couldn't make out many details.
Anyone know what I'm going on about? Thanks.

Are you thinking of Enya's song, Orinoco Flow?

Bingo. I was only off by ~20 years, and had it a bit mixed up with an
arrangement of something by Hugo Monterego, but that's it. :-) Thanks.
I think it's pretty astonishing that a descripton that vague netted an
answer!

My pleasure. Sorry that I misspelt the title.

Orinocco Flow - Enya
Let me sail, let me sail, let the Orinoco flow.
Let me reach, let me beach on the shores of Tripoli.
Let me sail, let me sail, let me crash upon your shore.
Let me reach, let me beach far beyond the Yellow Sea.

Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away,
From Bissau to Palau in the shade of Avalon,
From Fiji to Tiree and the Isles of Ebony,
From Peru to Cebu hear the power of Babylon,
From Bali to Cali far beneath the Coral Sea.

Turn it up...
Turn it up...
Turn it up...
Adieu, ooh.
Turn it up...

Turn it up...
Adieu, ooh, ooh.
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away,
From the North to the South, Ebudae into Khartoum,
From the deep sea of Clouds to the island of the moon,
Carry me on the waves to the lands I've never been,
Carry me on the waves to the lands I've never seen.
We can steer, we can near with Rob Dickins at the wheel,
We can sail, let me sail
Sail away, sail away,
We can steer, we can near with Rob Dickins at the wheel,
We can sigh, say goodbye Ross and his dependencies
We can sail, we can sail...
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
Sail away, sail away, sail away
