Hi there...I'm hoping SOMEONE can help. I'm trying to track down a
name and the band that recorded a song in the late 60's early 70's.
The song was recorded off the radio by my dad onto reel to reel, and
other songs of the time on the tape (from radio) were "You Really Got
Me"-an instrumental version by Mott the Hoople, live Joe Cocker doing
"Cry Me a River", live version of "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida", "Gypsy Woman",
and "Lay Lady Lay" by Bob Dylan.

quester...
I can narrow down the date a bit.

Looking at that list, you're talking late 1970 or beyond (Joe Cocker's
live "Cry Me A River" first hit the top-40 charts Oct. 24, 1970).
Other songs/dates I know are earlier:

Lay Lady Lay 1969 (Bob Dylan)

Gypsy Woman 1970 (Brian Hyland, not the 1961 version by
The Impressions)

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida 1968 (Iron Butterfly)
(That date is for the 45 single, which was cut down from the longer
version on the album - might that be what your "live" version is, the
longer album cut?)

As for the song itself, I can't help you. Best of luck with it.

NOW, onto the description of the song. The song is fairly lengthy, and

contains a rather long drum solo with HEAVY DOUBLE BASS. I KNOW this
(competent double bass) was pretty rare in the late 60's, and the song
sounds VERY MODERN; it does NOT have that flat rat a tat-tat Ginger
Baker sound, and the song has GREAT screaming blues type vocals...so
its not Vanilla Fudge. The song is also in an odd time-signature; its
NOT basic blues rock. I thought the song would be EASY to track down
due to the double bass drum solo...I thought I could just search
samples of popular bands from this era who had famous drummers and
eventually stumble on it. Moreso due to the fact that the drum solo is

several cuts above what I've heard from the so called "great" drummers
of this era. But, I haven't been able to find any leads to this song
anywhere. The song also has nice guitar work with brooding overtones
which hum and hold single note swells. Its really a great song (could
use to cut down the drum solo, tho). I thought it would either be
called "Never Part", "I Wonder Why I Worry", "Feel So Good", or "Make
My Sad Times Happy". Here are some lyrics (you get the jist of it, I'm

SURE these aren't the exact lyrics)...

Well I wonder why I worry
cuz right now it feels so good
Did I have the chance to tell you
That I never thought I could
You know what makes my sad times happy
But right now I feel so good...feel so good

Chorus:
Walkin' hand in hand you put a bow around my heart
If I don't stay forever, then my soul will never paaaaaaart....
Never Part

Middle Break during double bass instrumenal part:
It's all right
So Good!

Before the drum solo:
And I wonder why I worry...

Drum solo

Repeats similar to the above.

ANYONE HAVE ANY CLUES??????? SOMEONE HAS TO KNOW WHAT SONG THIS IS!!!

pipejunkie...
It was "Jump into the Fire" by the late Harry Nilsson.

Thanks everyone...
