and I lerk in this forum getting feedback from users. Well here is my
latest situation that I need this forum's help on please.
Alright so I have an opportunity to get a lyric license agreement for a
limited number of lyrics (about 10% or so of the popular music).
However I would need to launch a subscription service on the Lyric
Vault site. furthermore, I would have to charge at least $14.99 per
year and I am getting a lot of pressure to have it be as high as $24.99
per year.
My question is would you pay for this type of service?

I wouldn't. Not as long as there are sites out there with the same
content that are free.

If there were no free lyric sites in existance would you then pay for

I cant' see that happening, but yes. But the first minute a song I
wanted wasn't on there, or lyrics were wrong, I wouldn't pay anymore.

Your search engine would need to allow booleans for sure. I *think* I
would consider paying for a lyric search site if it was able to load my
iPod with the proper lyrics without me having to spend a lot of time
doing that, AND if it loaded up the album cover also.
What else would be nice is band history. Like if you could find an
accurate discography, band members, cross reference of band members,
etc. Like Terry Hounsome's Rock Record. A database like that kept up to
date I would pay for. Also I agree with a previous post that spots for
user feedback is appealing to me. Either just funny stuff, or lyrics
heard wrong, or the kinds of sites that allow for lyric interpretation.
But somehow you'd have to keep goofy kid stuff off there. I also like
sites that try to help me find more music I'd like, like the Music
Genome idea, or "people who liked this song also liked...," or even
just elaborate music categorization. Facts about the songs/band would
be nice too.

I'm not offended, I appreciate anyone who tries to post lyrics to help
me.

When someone makes negative comments to me, sometimes I like to check
to see if they're just enjoying making negative comments, or if they
have a solution for something better. If they don't have any better
suggestions to offer, then I don't dwell as much on their opinion.
I think it's insane that record companies are trying to shut down
lyrics sites. This is how I find a lot of the music I want to buy. The
DJs nowadays are more interested in talking about themselves than
identifying the song they just played. The only way to find out what
the song was is to search online.

I wouldn't. I'm with Harold on this. A hobbyist with a bit of time on
his hands who comes here sometimes for a bit of fun.
I was a regular here, many years ago, under a different nym - and i
wouldn't have paid then.
I would hazard a guess that the only people who might be seriously
interested in your site as a subscription service would be those who
paid you a one off sub, downloaded the whole site, and then set up
their own, ad based, freebie.

That would depend on who I was paying, and where the money went. If I
was sure that it was being shared between the site operator and the
composer (ie, the supplier of the service and the creator of the
material), then I might be willing to pay. If any of it was going to
record companies or the RIAA (or their equivalent anywhere else) then
most definitely not.

I think the publishers are on to a loser if they think they can make
money out of lyrics on the web. There are simply too many sites out
there which already have them, and shutting them all down or making
them pay up is likely to be near-impossible.

A lot of people agree with you. I feel it will be interesting to see
how it plays out in the end.
Thanks for your feedback.

web-search is free and lightning fast
Your site is rubbish - really slow and full of incredibly irritating ads
Now you're wondering if anyone would like to give you money as well...?
You really haven't got a clue, have you...?
|
The features for the subscibers is still yet to be determined but would
include such things as:
1. Limited to no advertising (the Lyric Vault site pretty much has
this as it is).
2. The ability to print or copy the lyrics.
3. Scripts for integration into WinAMP, iTunes, and other services
that would show you the lyrics as you play songs.
4. A lyrics toolbar for IE, Netscape, and Firefox.
5. Whatever else I can think of or get suggestions on.
Again, would you pay for this type of service and how much would it be
worth to you?
Thanks for the feedback and discussion.
Sincerely,

I wouldn't pay for this service at all. I participate in this group
because it's fun. Sometimes I know the answers, sometimes I do a
quick web-search (or similar) search, but there's nothing that would be
worthwhile for me to pay any subscription fees anywhere.
