Hey everybody,
I have a little question - I see these lyrics websites all around me on the
net, and I'd like to know whether or not it is legal to set up such a site.
The thing is, I was thinking of creating such a site myself (given the fact
that I've been collecting lyrics for years now) to give back something to
all of those people who have given me the lyrics in the first place.

I know of this project and I know that they have already been reported, so
that's part of the reason I asked the question.
Thanks anyway...

But somewhere on the net I've read something about the music industry not
being very happy with such sites, and even starting up lawsuits to take
them down. Since this would be a hobby site, I'd like to stay out of
trouble of course :)
Any ideas?

One of the issues is that you are going to be building your activity on
something that you don't own. And frankly, given the hundreds of sites
out there that already offer thousands of lyrics, what can you offer
that is of any interest?

True - but lyrics isn't property that's being "sold" imho.
What can I offer of interest? A site that's completely ad-free, has more
lyrics than most sites out there, has lyrics that are verified to be
correct, and some other handy features.

Why do you figure your project is an improvement? The lion's share of
websites already have a HUGH amount of duplication. Why play "me-too"?

You probably meant to reply to Ikke, as that is basically my point. It's
a lot of work just to duplicate what is already out there.
