George Michael slams pop

10/12/2005 - 16:12:43

George Michael has hit out at the contemporary pop scene, claiming the word
has become a "byword for s**t".

The former Wham! Star insists he has nothing against the genre - only what
it now represents.

that these days pop has become a byword for s**t."

Terry Lomax...
When was the last time George Michael recorded a good song, 1988? Most
modern pop is indeed the s-word, but he's a hypocrite because he
apparently hasn't made any good modern songs. He should STFU until he
writes a good song. He gets to sing the theme for the upcoming James
Bond movie; my prediction is he'll eff it up.

Doomella...
Well, I don't have to be a successful pop star to think that today's music
(most of it) is bland, processed, generic, tedious, overproduced,
predictable and uninspiring...
Then again, I could just be your basic old fogey. I used to know every song
ever released, but time seemed to stop in 1994 and I just remain
congealed... I still consider "Mr. Jones" by Counting Crowes a "new"
song, and I like it.

There are other songs I hear that I kind of like (like, at the gym) but I
have no idea who they are.

Phoenix...
Sometime after Oasis/early Radiohead/NIN I lost interest in new music.
Caught up on a lot of other artists like Lucinda Williams and Alison
Krause over the last couple years, but nothing new holds my interest at
all.
