Because she's such a brilliant comedic actress and there's no way Lorne
would schedule a host merely to coincide with the promotion of an
upcoming tv show or film.

Which makes me wonder the last time the host was NOT scheduled that
way? Not counting the Steve Martin/Tom Hanks/John Gooman/Alec Baldwin
competition, nor the political hosts that are trying to show that
they're "regular people (Al Gore/John McCain/Al Sharpton etc). In the
old days, it was practically NEVER done that way; people hosted because
it was a cool thing to do

In the olden days, we had to walk five miles uphill in the snow to host
SNL -- Annnnnd Weeeee *LIKED* It!

Five miles? Pure luxury! In my day, we had to walk the 25 miles from the
bus terminal to the NBC Studios and back every day for a week during
rehearsals! But tell that to the kids today, and they won't believe you!
