Punk icons BLONDIE's upcoming co-headlining US tour with the reunited
THE CARS will be the group's last.
Singer DEBORAH HARRY, who was inducted into the Rock + Roll Hall of
Fame in New York last night (13MAR06) with her bandmates, made the
announcement via satellite, during THE NEW CARS' press conference in
Los Angeles this morning (14MAR06).
She told members of the media that Blondie had planned to quit
touring in December (05), but agreed to stage farewell concerts when
the offer to travel with the new-look The Cars came up.
Harry says, "We were planning to end in December but then the
induction into the Hall of Fame came up and the opportunity to tour
with The New Cars.
"We haven't toured in the States for a while and there's no place
like home."
But Harry insists the decision to stop touring doesn't mean the CALL
ME hitmakers won't work together again.
She adds, "We're gonna take a break. I'm working on a book and CHRIS
(STEIN) has got a movie...It's time to do some experimenting for me.
"That said, Blondie doing more recording is a distinct possibility."
Harry states she's "excited" about Blondie's farewell tour, which
kicks off in May (06): "I hope a lot of people come out and see us."
Blondie reformed in 1999 after a 17 year hiatus. (KL/WN/SH)
