The photos on the BBC's news site's coverage of Prince Harry's passing
out parade show the Prince of Wales in the uniform of a general and
wearing the Garter star, a Bath neck badge and what appears to be the
OM hanging from his ADC's lanyard.

It may look like this but it is actually coming from the
(double-breasted) coat.
|
I've never seen this method being used before to display a second neck
badge. I've seen a few pictures of people wearing more than one neck
badge, even with lanyards.
Does anyone know if this is a personal idiosyncracy or official
practice? Is it the OM (Civil) or something else?

Correct practice: see a copy of "Dress and Insignia Worn at Court".

Correct for "ordinary" neck badges, including the those of Knight
Commanders, Commanders and Companions. Incorrect for the OM and CH,
both of which are supposed to be worn alone, to the exclusion of any
other neck badges. These two orders are also never worn in miniature.

Another feature I notice is that he appears to be wearing his pilot's wings
on his upper right arm. Is this the usual place on an army officer's
uniform? I seem to remember years ago (at his first wedding?) the wings

Is it not a parachute insignia (for which he qualified in 1978) rather
than pilot's wings?

appeared on his naval uniform in a rather strange place.

You know you've had a good night
when you wake up
and someone's outlining you in chalk.
