Adelsstanden was part of the parliament until 1906 when a one-chamber
=?iso-8859-1?B?SmFuIEL2aG1l?=...

.=2E.in particular since this is Norwegian and not Swedish, which still
is by far the dominant mother tongue of the nobility of Finland. The
corresponding Swedish word is "Adelsst=E5ndet", although in Swedish
formal Swedish this is called "Ridderskapet och Adeln" (i.e. the
knighthood and the Nobility) - just as in the title of the calendar -
and means, as Dag has explained, the (parliamentary) Estate of
Nobility.

Stand, in Scandinavian, German languages, is of course the same word as
estate, =E9tat.

social class - historically speaking "estate" - the parliament
consisted of four estates, of which the adel, the nobility, was one. I
don't know Finnish history well, but the four estates must have been
nobility, clergy, burghers, and land-owning peasants.

Hus(et), one uses the Danish version of the same word, corresponds to
House, in English, Haus, in German. Here you find the word as part of
the House of Lords, Herrnhaus (a translation of House of Lords).

As the Swedish nobility calendar 2007 (Svenska Adelskalendern),
in December, it is going to be an expensive year for me. The Danish
equivalent, Danmarks Adels Aarbog 2003-2005 was published in June this
year and cost DKK 1.000...
