The engagement was announced 18 January, 2006, between John David
James (Jamie) Dalrymple, 14th Earl of Stair (b. 4 September, 1961),
eldest son of the late 13th Earl of Stair, KCVO, MBE (1906-96), by his
wife the former Davina Katharine Bowes Lyon (b. 1930), & the Hon. Emily
Mary Julia Stonor (b. 1969), daughter of the 7th Baron Camoys, GCVO, PC
(b. 16 Apr 1940), Lord Chamberlain of HM Royal Household and Chancellor
of the Royal Victorian Order, 1998-2000, by his wife, the former
Elisabeth Mary Hyde Parker (b. 1939).
The Earl of Stair is a great-nephew of Queen Elizabeth The Queen
Mother. His grandfather was HM's yr brother, Sir David Bowes Lyon.
Emily Stonor's brother, the Hon (Ralph) William Robert Thomas Stonor
(b. 10 Sept 1974), married in 2004, Lady Ailsa Fiona Mackay (b. 1977),
daughter of the 4th Earl of Inchcape and the Countess of Inchcape

Good marriages in that generation of the Stonor family. And the Earl
of Stair is I think the last of his parents's children to become
engaged (wasn't his brother recently engaged as well)?

I think this qualifies as the exception to the rule these days-- a peer
becoming engaged to the daughter of a peer. Very rare indeed!
