Gotha, 1933, French ed.:
359: Battenberg (Mountbatten), ont abandonn=E9 leur titre allemend de
"Prinz von B ..
le titre n'est pas allemand but Hessian! Abandonned conforming to
German, Hassian Law. Probably one should rather say: they have stopped
to use .. (in legal English).
And one must always have in mind the Gotha is a grocers product of no
legal consequence. The grocer says up to our mind ..

In your opinion; yet one may find it in every royal library, and indeed in the
libraries of I am sure tha vast majority of families included therein as well as
foreign ministries, protocol offices, etc. The heads of every Europena royal
house responded to annual inquiries from the editor, with occasionally lengthy
correspondence regarding the styles and titles of members of these families. Its
editiorial policy became the subject of exchanges with the Court of the Duchy of
Saxe-Coburg and other states, and indeed for many years the House of Wettin was
given first place in the publication. That does not preclude it from making
errors, nor was its policy on certain succession matters neutral. Perhaps its
exclusion of the thousands of Continental Countly families made it less useful
to lesser nobles?
