I apologise for this blatant commercial plug, but I know a lot of the
readers of rec.heraldry and alt.talk.royalty are interested in
Cracroft's Peerage, so this is the easiest way to contact them.
Cracroft's Peerage Limited, part of the Heraldic Media Group, is
pleased to announce that Release 5.2 of Cracroft's Peerage is now
available. Current subscribers can download it from the website
additional content in the new release.
If anyone is interested in seeing a demo version of Cracroft's
Peerage, they can register as a visitor on the website and download a
copy of the demo version. An annual subscription to Cracroft's
Peerage is now only £30 (plus applicable VAT if appropriate).

There won't ever be a hard-copy version, Louis, otherwise Cracroft's
Peerage would loose a lot of the functionality that makes an
electronic version so superior to a paper version.

Sorry, Louis, but I totally fail to see where would be the advantage
in having a paper version . Would you care to explain?

Gee, computers are great, grand and glorious. Some people take this to the
extreme wanting to computerize *everything* than can be computerized,
whether it serves a purpose, or not. Putting something online is frequently
an increase in functionality, especially when searching. But browsing,
perusing and just enjoying are better in book form. Barnes & Noble is not

With respect, Louis, I must disagree.
I probably use the standard peerage reference works a lot more than
most people, and using Cracroft's Peerage is a lot less cumbersome
than using Burke's and a lot, lot less sumbersome than using
Debrett's.
Once you do the mind shift from a paper based book to a screen based
book, you will be amazed just how easy it is to use and how much
quicker you can find information.

In this particular case the customer has long been aware of what is
available from this particular businessman. Patrick has been very clear
from the start - some four years ago-that his work would be of the
electronic type with no paper version available.

And nothing says he has to do otherwise, just because others want it, unless
he wants their business. Likewise, the two particular customers in question
have made it aware what they are, and are not, interested in.

While that old adage "The Customer is always right" has a nice ring it
is not always true.

It's obviously not true that "The Customer is always right", but the
customer is always the customer. We may not have a deal today, but in the
future, when the customer needs something else, maybe he'll try us again....

It is a joke of corse :-) You should =A8watch the movie some times to
understand that. Basicaly it is an PC dream where objects, books etc...
apears in 3D format whitout screeen and it is possible to just touch
hypertext etc. to get info on that. :-)

I wouldn't disagree with you, but Cracroft's Peerage is designed to
look and feel very much like a book.
