Last night, one of the local PBS stations in New York ran a 60's
reunion musical program.
One of the acts was Chad and Jeremy.

Jeremy Clyde is the son of Major Thomas Clyde and his wife, the former
Lady Elizabeth Wellesley, daughter of the 7th Duke of Wellington.
Jeremy is also a nephew of the current (8th) Duke.

I can't believe no-one has mentioned Count Basie and Duke Ellington yet

Tina Kramer...
How about Earl "Fatha" Hines? ;-)

" ... 'cause I'm the Duke of Earl ... "

I was wondering if anyone knows of any other aristocratic musicians.

The Austrian conductor Nikolaus Harnoncourt is a Count.

There's the late composer Sir Lennox Berkeley, whose son Michael is

Stephen Stillwell / Tom Wilding...
The 7th Earl of Harewood, first cousin to HM The Queen, has an honourary
Doctorate in Music from Leeds, was editor of Opera magazine, director of the
Royal Opera House, artistic director of Edinburgh, Leeds, & Adelaide
Festivals, chairman of the English National Opera, managing director of the
ENO North, has edited several volumes on opera, received the Janacek Medal
from the Czech Republic for contributions to music.

His first wife (and former countess) Marion Stein was a concert pianist.
His second wife (and current countess) Patricia Shmith was a violinist.

His second son (by first wife), Jame Lascelles was (may still be) a jazz /
folk keyboardist with a band.

Just found another 60's musician with aristocratic connections-- Peter
Asher (of Peter and Gordon). His mother (Margaret) was a
great-granddaughter of the 3rd Earl of St. Germans.

I think a son of the present Earl is, or was, in a band that was tipped
for stardom a few years ago. No idea whether it happened, but I seem to
recall they did appear on Top of the Pops once.

I since remembered it was (the Hon.) Louis Eliot, and a web-search gives
the name of his group as Rialto. He is still a musician-

There also used to be a group called The Frozen Turkeys- the singer was
Ned Durham (styled Lord D, heir to E of Durham), the drummer was his
sometime brother-in-law Adam McEwen (scion of Bts), and I think the
guitarist was Sachin Mulji (grandson of 2nd Baron Moyne). Other members
may have been of similar backgrounds, but I don't know who they were. I
saw them play in the 1990s; they were very good, I thought- probably
unbearable to most people though!

Thanks for everyone's help!

HM Norodom Sihanouk, King of Cambodia, was a composer and
a jazz saxophonist. --r

Frank R.A.J. Maloney...
Isn't King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand also a jazz musician and composer?
If memory serves, the piano is his instrument of choice.
