I have read somewhere that there were indeed other protestants that had
a better claim to the English throne than Sophia. Could someone mention
a few of them?

The current heir of line of Lady Frederica can be found among the descendants of
the 5th Earl of Yarborough (d. 1948).

Not in 1714. By then there were 57 persons with a better hereditary right,
but all were Catholic.
When Sophia was born, all her brothers and elder sisters - about a dozen in
all iirc - were of course ahead of her in line of succession to the throne,
as were the offspring of her uncle Charles I, but by 1714 all had died
leaving either no descendants or only RC ones.

Except of course the questionably legitimate Raugraf line, descended from
her brother Karl Ludwig
Sophia is at E13, the Raugraves are at F4- F16
I see one of them died in a duel at 15 - obviously Child Protection
guidelines were not as advanced then ...
