If HRH Princess Caroline of Hanover succeds her brother HSH Prince
Albert of Monaco what will her style and title be? Will it be (in
Monaco) HS&RH Princes Caroline I of Monaco and Hanover? And if she was
(for example) with her husband at a "Hanoverian event" would she be
HR&SH Princess Caroline of Hanover and Monaco? Regards.

Rico...
At the moment her name is not used and thus should be refered to as HRH The
Princess of Hannover. When she succedes she will be HR&SH Princess Caroline
(the first never uses a number), The Soverign Princess of Monaco, The

That statement depends entirely on the country, and for Monaco it is false.
See for example the legend on:

Princess of Hannover, feminine of all other Monagasque soverigns titles. Of

Do all of them descend to heirs general? Isn't Duke of Valentinois,
for instance, limited to the male line?

Francois R. Velde...
If it were, how did it pass to Rainier III?

In my view, these titles are all Monegasque inventions that will pass, like
the name Grimaldi, to whomever succeeds.

her children and step children only Alexandra will be entitled to both
Serenc and Royal Highness status

Why is there an assumption that dual styles will be used? Normally,
only the higher of two styles is used. For instance, when the

For a curious departure in the case of an ancestor of Caroline's husband,
see the Court Circular of June 24, 1878:
"His late Majesty King George of Hanover, his Royal Highness the duke of
Cumberland, K.G., First Cousin of Her Majesty the Queen, General in her
Majesty's Army, were interred in the Royal vault of St. George's Chapel
at Windsor."

Luxembourg Grand Duchess married a Prince of Parma, she and her
descendants became entitled to the style HRH; the current Grand Ducal
family is not styled HR&GDH, because the latter is subsumed in the
former. Similarly, the late Prince George of Hannover was both a
Hannoverian Royal Highness and a British Highness, but he was not
styled HR&H or somesuch. Or to use different analogy, when HRH the
Princess Elizabeth succeeded to the UK throne, she became HM, not
HM&RH. Or look at the Russian Imperial family: the Tsar was Emperor of
Russia, King of Poland and Grand Duke of Finland, yet his children were
not styled HI&R&GDH.

I appreciate that the Hapsburgs and the head and heir of the Prussian
dynasty confuse matters, being styled HI&RH, but these are special
cases where the peculiar style was adopted for political reasons.

It would seem to me that, should Caroline succeed her brother on the
Monagesque throne, she will be HRH The Princess of Monaco, and her
children (save the youngest, a RH) will become HSH.

Charles von Hamm...
The way I see this sort of matter is that HIH and HRH are generally derived
from sovereigns bearing a style in the form of Majesty, therefore they can
be used together without one masking the other.

Charles von Hamm...
I can see no reason why she would resume using the style of Serene Highness,
unless her marriage to Ernst August ends. I assume she will be HRH The
Sovereign Princess of Monaco. At a "Hanoverian" event, she is still a
sovereign and would still be The Sovereign Princess of Monaco.

Of course, she would remain the Princess of Hanover, but why would she
continue to use it?
