How is Nina Mary Benita Poore (1878-1951), wife of the 13th Duke of
Hamilton & Brandon and mother of the 14th Duke (father of the 15th and
present Duke and the life peer Lord Selkirk of Douglas, previously 11th
Earl of Selkikr) related to the Poore baronets? Her father and mother
were apparently first cousins through their Massy-Dawson mothers; her
brother Robert Montagu Poore is described as a cousin of the present
baronet.

There was a fashion in the U.S. for Spanish-sounding names in the
1820's and 1830's; maybe true in Britain as well.

Nina's sister Anna Maria Poore, Lady Pelly was mother of Benita,
Viscountess Alanbrooke and aunt by marriage to Constance Lilian Pelly,
Countess of Crawford & Balcarres. They had several brothers, of whom
the eldest (?) Robert Montagu Poore (1866-1938 dsp) was a noted
cricketeer in his day and was md 1898 to the yst sister of the future
13th Duke of Hamilton (who succeeded to the title 1895, and then
married his sister's husband's yst sister in 1901).
Nina, Duchess of Hamilton was daughter of Juanita Benita Lowry-Corry,
whose parents were Armagh Lowry-Corry, Rear-Admiral of the White
(1793-1855), [given his flag 1854] and Eliza Rosetta Eyre, nee
Massy-Dawson, a daughter of James Massy-Dawson (kinsman of the Lords
Clarina). I am not sure how Admiral Lowry-Corry was related to the 1st
Earl of Belmore (1740-1802), but may have been his nephew.
Nina, Duchess of Hamilton had a niece Benita Blanche Pelly (1892-1968)
who married 1stly (sp?) a baronet (ka Dardanelles 1915) and then 1929
(as his 2nd wife) the 1st Viscount Alanbrooke. The present Viscount
(unmarried) is her son; her daughter died in the lifetime of her
parents.
