Why does Juan Carlos claim the title King of Jerusalem? Does Luis Alfonso
claim the title?

Guy Stair Sainty...
Firts of all under the present constitution the old titles of the crown are
conserved, but not used. The title of King of Jerusalem does not represent a
claim in the sense that he is claiming to be King of that city, but is by right
of reprsentation of a dynasty that once, many centuries ago, did indeed
make such a claim in right of representation of the successive kings of the
Christian Kingdoim of Jerusalem, who ended their temporal reign as kings of
Cyprus. There are several claimants for this title, the heads of the Imperial
House of Austria and the Royal House of the Two Sicilies, and the Duke of Savoy,
also claiming it. None, I suspect, would ever want to be accused of seeking to
reign *in* Jerusalem! The title of king of Jerusalem, and the other historic
titles of the Spanish crown have not been abandoned because trhe present
monarchy is the "reinstalltion" of the ancient one, and not a new
monarchy.

You have started a new thread. Are you sure there exist a [Spanish] Ley
[in English: Law] Pragmatica?

François R. Velde...
There are several. One, promulgated in March 1776 to regulate marriages,
contains a clause that has been the basis for the claim that the issue of
unequal marriages were excluded from the Spanish throne.
