Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward...
My daughter who's nearly three months likes to sleep swaddled at night.
Initially we wrapped her in a receiving blanket but as soon as she
started to wriggle it would come undone, so we've been using a
swaddling wrap called Kiddopotamus, which we received as a gift. I
believe it was the smallest size and it's served us well till now -
she's grown too long for it (23 inches, was 20 at birth).

My daughter loved being swaddled. The kiddopotamus didn't work
for us because she'd get her arms free and wake up.

We tried using safety pins with a receiving blanket but that was no

That seems to me to go beyond the research evidence! I am surprised it has had
such an effect on the sale of flat sheets, especially as people in mk*
regularly mention bumpers, which are a definite SIDS risk factor. Very odd!

Ericka Kammerer...
Actually, I think top sheets in cribs weren't much
in use in the US even before there was any association with
SIDS. Now, however, even blanket use is dropping in favor
of sleeping bags.

Penny Gaines...
I would have thought that sleeping bags were a bigger risk then
blankets. What happens if the room heats up in the night - at least
with blankets, you can take one off, without disturbing the baby.
Or for that matter, the room cools down? Blankets just seem to give
so many more options.

In Britain, we are advised to put the baby with his/her feet at the
foot of the bed, and the blankets up to their shoulders, so that they
can't wriggle under the blanket(s).

It might be a cultural thing though: in Britain very few homes have air
con (I don't know anyone with it), and many people don't use heating
overnight. So we expect the temperature, and hence the required
amount of covering, to change.

Best wishes,
Ericka

good at all.

We also tried a swaddling wrap by First Years which we found at Target
which is supposed to be one size fits all, and either we couldn't
figure it out or else it's just completely useless at her size (23
inches).

So I was wondering if anyone can recommend something more effective.

-L....
If she is wiggling free maybe she isn't so happy about being swaddled
any more? I know our son's foster Mom swaddled him while she had him -
first 4 weeks. When we got him home it became apparent fairly quickly
that he wanted no part of swaddling. I know babies can change in
what they like and dislike.

LOL. The cheapest and probably most effective solution is a cot sheet.

mbwagner...
We used a big receiving blanket found here:

There are directions and pictures for swaddling with it. That worked
until DD was about 7 months old, then we had to switch to not
being swaddled. It was a tough transition, but sorted out OK.

I've also heard good things about the miracle blanket:
