I plan on moving to Murietta, CA in July. The only family I have out
there is a brother-in-law (and his wife). My wife and I need to work
full time (most likely 8-5 jobs). My brother-in-law and his wife also
work 8-5.

My son will be starting kindergarden in August. I am assuming he gets
out of school around 3:30 or 4. What do people generally do in this
case? He is too young to get on the bus and stay by himself

Nikki...
In my area there is a before and after school program. It is either in the
school building or transportation is provided by the program. Since I had a
younger son in daycare I had my son take a city run transit system from
school to the babysitter's house.

(obviously). My wife and I cannot pick him up as we need to work. Any
ideas?

Kindergarten usually gets out earlier than 3:30 here. But that's not
the issue. Also he may be starting later than you have to be at your
jobs.

People her pay for before school and after school care. Sometimes
this is provided at schools, sometimes it involves hiring a sitter or
provider who handles dropping off and picking up a child from school.

In Evanston, IL. where my children grew up (they are adults now),
there was after school care available through the public school. When
my daughter was in K, this was not at her school, but she would have
been bussed to another school. For that year, I found that it was
better to have her in a private school that provided after school care
on their premises. The other option in Evanston, was the YMCA which
had a small van type bus and picked kids up at the various schools and
bussed them to the Y location for after school care. They also did
before school care and parents dropped off, but then they bussed the
kids to the appropriate public school.

If you have some flexibility in your work, perhaps you can watch the kids
one afternoon a week, another parent watch another afternoon, etc. That way,
each of you get free day care and get to spend one afternoon a week.

Also, see if you can find jobs that let you work from home, at least part
time. That will be real helpful when Jr. comes home with the runs or lice or
the cold of the week. That way you can still get paid while your son feels
well enough to run around.

Find out if the school he'll attend has a Before and After school care
program. These have become quite popular, and are relatively
inexpensive. Ours opens at 6:45 am and runs until 5:30 p.m.
