Took my daughter to school today to find that the school is closed. They
closed it 2 weeks ago due to not having it federally inspected, when I
called last week I was told today it was going to be opened back up.
Gave my DD a bath and got her ready this morning to go, we get up there
and its closed DD was so upset, crying all the way to the walk to the car.
I'm upset myself, should I find a way to report the Head start program
because of the issues it is having?

Honestly, I'd find another preschool for her. In this area, the Head
Start program has so many issues it wouldn't be worth even trying to
have my kids enrolled.

I would start with your local school district. They should either know who
is responsible or might even be responsible themselves.
I have to say that this is a bad sign. It might be time to look for another
preschool. A lot of the other kids might not be coming back already, so if
you decide to stick with this preschool, you need to be prepared to explain
that some kids left.

The Head Start in my area is horrible. Someone came to my house once to try
to get me to sign my kids up to go there, and to humor her I took a tour of

Same here, Head Start is a joke. It's a government program that has HEAVY
funding w/ very little, if any, value. BTDT, I would rather keep my kid at
hime. Actually, I DID pull my kid out and keep her home that year.

I don't know what Head Start is like nowadays. I am a product of Head Start
and I do have good memories of it.

I think Head Start programs are like schools in NYC: There are some
excellent schools that would rival any suburban school and there are schools
in NYC that so bad that you wouldn't wish them on your worst enemy's kids.
In fact, there was one school in NYC that did this:
Tardy parents get sent to detention
NEW YORK, Oct. 1 (UPI) -- A school in New York has adopted a policy that
sends parents to detention if they show up late to drop off their children.
The New York Post reported that the Manhattan School for Children, an elite
public school that has been nationally recognized, adopted the new rule in
order to motivate parents to deliver their children to school on time in the
mornings.
Under the policy, tardy parents must pick up a late slip in the office and
then go to the auditorium for a 20-minute time out.

Riiiiiight. Some poor parent, who is already running late for work, is going
to actually participate in this nonsense. What if they flatly refuse to play?
OTOH I suppose they might have people who hate their jobs queueing up to be
late!
|
The new policy was announced in a letter to parents last summer. Still, as
many as five parents a day have reportedly been sent into detention, the
Post said.
Some parents denounce the rule as silly and going too far, the report said.
Others believe in it, saying it's a real source of morning motivation.

the place and I couldn't believe it. Maybe it used to be good for kids but
not anymore, at least in my area! My neighbor's kids went there and would
come home saying all kinds of nasty things and using curse words.
