I wanted to know if anyone had any advice for driving long periods of
time with a baby. My son just turned one and we are travelling 13
hours to go visit my Dad for a few days. Just wondering if I shold
give him baby gravel, ect.

What is baby gravel? Cereal? If that's the case then no. Why would you
start solid food just for a road trip? It's most likely not going to fill
him up. Plan for plenty of stops and bring your patience.

No idea why you'd want to give him gravel!
Just the usual -- make sure the car is in good nick, and stop every two hours
for a rest and to stretch your legs (and the baby's! They become very
uncomfortable being stuck in the one position).

Anyways,
Thanks for the help in advance,

DH and I found that length trip easiest to do leaving an hour or two
before dinner: we'd have an hour or two in the car, stop for a meal and
some exercise, then another hour or two in the car before the kids fell

what is baby gravel?
anyway, if you decide to try the drive at night idea, i
*strongly* suggest you try it out on a shorter trip first. not
all kids go to sleep in cars, night or not.
we tried this tip once, because, hey it sounds reasonable,
right? not with my kid! we routinely travel 8-9 hours to NY
every other weekend in summer (& back obviously) and when Boo
was around 1, we thought this sounded like a great suggestion.
he was fine when we set out, as he usually was. then it got
dark. did he go to sleep? no. he got bored. and he screamed.
and screamed. and screamed. for 6 of the nine hours. can i say
that was the worst trip i've ever taken? we have never
traveled after dark without a light for the carseat again.
(Fisher Price makes a clip on carseat light)
when he was 2.5 we got a portable VCR, then a year later a
portable DVD player. if your child is at all interested in
baby videos, i highly recommend one for at least some respite
from boredom. if he's walking, stop every couple hours for
some walk around time.

asleep. He and I would take turns driving, and arrive early in the
morning.
