Does zinc oxide get absorbed through the skin?

Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward...
I'm wondering if there is any contraindication to using zinc oxide
ointment in the diaper area on a daily basis. Are there any studies
showing its safety? Thanks!

Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward...
(Other than skin dryness, that is.)

Ericka Kammerer...
I don't really know the answer to that question
and a quick search didn't turn up any particular risks,
but it seems to me that if it's necessary, it's necessary
and if it's not, it's not. I never put anything on my
kids' regularly, but then again, they weren't prone to
diaper rash. If it took daily zinc oxide ointment to
keep them from having diaper rash, I'd have done that
without much heartburn.

Best wishes,
Ericka

Lady Penelope Creighton-Ward...
Thanks Ericka. I don't use it daily, but fairly frequently just the
same, so I wanted to be sure I wasn't harming my baby with it somehow...

L....
It's safe - not absorbed by the skin. It's also used as sunblock.
