My daughter is now 21 months and its day 5 of potty training. We are
using underwear as her potty training strategy as i have heard pull ups
are no good. Having said that, my daughter demonstrates all signs of

Pull-ups are good. Pull-ups are awesome for when you go out, shopping,
etc etc, and at nighttime, where getting to the washroom is difficult.
But you are right, for at home and places where there is a ready
bathroom, underwear is best.

readiness. Day 2 was a good progress, she told me that she had to pee
and did it in toilet. She got appraisal from both of us and of course
the sweet reward. However that was the only successful round. Since day

My daughter was like this at around 18 or 19 months old or so. She
really wanted to do it, went to underwear and everything, but then on
the second or third day, backed right off and asked for diapers back.
(I didn't have any sort of reward system, but she's very much a
pleaser.)

Welches...
I used a chocolate button for #1 and she trained pretty easily at 21 months.
It took a week from nappies off to rare accidents (less than one a week).
#2 I didn't use the chocolate buttons after the first day and she took more
like a month to get to the same stage at nearly 2.
Works for some, not for others. If the child is ready I don't see why a
reward isn't in order. If they're not ready then nothing's going to work.
With #2 the incentive was that she could sit on the potty herself and not
need nappy changes.

4 and 5 she is holding on to her poop and pee as long as she could.
Last night she went on for 5 hours before she pee in her diaper before
going to bed. I am not pushing her at all. I don't even mention it as
it may create pressure on her to go. I let her tell me. Am i doing

Don't neccesarily let her tell you. Just tell her to go once in a
while. If she doesn't want to, then she probably isn't ready.

something wrong??? She seems ready and she tells me when she is going
in her diaper and this has been going on for over 3 months. I think she
is ready but may seem like she is not. Any help or any clue as to what
to do that will help this situation would be greatly appreciated!

Happy 2006!

After my daughter's backoff, she was ready to go about a month later or
so, and was more or less potty-trained in a couple days. (By more or
less, I mean reliable at home and other places with available
bathrooms. There were still the accidents in the car, and at the
playground where distractions kept her from thinking about it.) At
this point, you probably should let her run the show, there's no
pressure at this age AT all.
