DS took some photos for a photography contest. The theme is "My Favorite
Place." We can only enter one photo. Which photo should we enter?

ChitaShines...
I like the one with the fountain.

Jeff...
I would enter photo 2, because photo 1 has the building (to me, it looks
like a lighthouse) in the background of the palm tree. That kind of ruins
the picture, especially if it is to be judged against other pictures.

Knit Chic...
Are you able to photoshop them? The first one would be nice if it were
sharpened a little and cropped. The 2nd one would as well.

toypup...
I'm not sure how much the parents are allowed to do. I thought I might just
enter whatever DS did, since he's not old enough to do his own editing. The
rules pretty much state this should be the child's own work. The photos can
be edited and manipulated, but I think they meant the kids should do that,
since there are divisions for older kids and I can see them doing that. Of
course, I'm sure a lot of parents "help." I'd just rather this be
completely his own work.

Knit Chic...
Good for you for not doing his work for him! That happens way to much. I
thought your DS was a teen, after rereading the thread I see that he is much
younger. sorry about that.

Rosalie B....
I think the most I ever did was help them get mats, and have the
enlargement done at the photo shop.

Nikki...
I vote for the fountain too :) They are both good. I like the blue blue
sky in the first one.

I liked the fountain and I asked dh who has won some photo contests
with wildlife pictures. He agrees that the fountain photo is the
better of the two.

toypup...
Thanks everyone. I guess it's unanimous. The fountain wins. DH liked the
fountain better, too. We'll submit the fountain and see how it goes. He'll
be one of the younger ones entering his division (kindergarten to second
grade). At the very least, he'll get a picture in the yearbook and a
certificate. He'll like that.

Rosalie B....
Definitely the second one. The first one has an uninteresting dark
area on the left, and the thing that you see behind the trees isn't
framed well. The second one has some minor framing issues as well,
but is better.

My ds and dd#3 also entered photo contests, and dd#3 won several
This is a very small photo of dd#3's picture of her pony fighting with
another one in the pasture which was her prize winning photo. She
didn't take it for the contest. She was a freshman in HS at the time.
Ds's children have also entered photo contests. And actually I once
got HM in a photo contest put on by the SF Examiner.

Thanks. I hope DS grows up to be so good. I think he definitely has
talent. He's only taken a handful of photos his entire life. I didn't even
know he could take photos until my dad handed him his camera a few months
ago. He takes amazing photos of people. My brother gave him his camera
phone to take a photo of DD. My brother tried to take a good photo, as
well, but DS's photo was the best one. I just don't want to give DS a
camera to play with just yet, because he'll surely drop it or scratch the
lense quickly. I have to supervise. His aunt is amazing with the camera.
I think he has some of her genes. Too bad there are no photography classes
for kids around here.

I'm not sure what the first one is supposed to be showing, so my vote
goes for #2.
