How many naps does a 12 month old kid need, usually, one or two

One year olds are often on the cusp between two naps
and one nap. It's often a difficult time, since one nap
often isn't enough and two naps is too many. What they need
can also vary from day to day. Eventually you get to the
point where one afternoon nap is sufficient. Different babies
have different timings, though. Some 12mo kids still clearly
need the two naps, and some are very comfortable with one at
that point. You just have to judge by how the individual
child is doing.
Best wishes,

Around 17-18 months is the transition from
two naps to one. But, every child is different.

It depends on the kid. My son took two naps until he was about 15 months. My
dd went down to one at 11 months. If you find you are struggling with the
schedule with two naps then it might be time to start the transition to one
nap. We did this by after eliminating two naps, putting her down a bit early
for the one, around 11:00am then over time shifted it back towards 1:00.
Now, at 26 months she goes down for her nap somewhere between 1:30-2:30.
Make adjustments to fit your/his schedule. However, if it ain't broke, don't
fix it. HTH
