In your experience, what sort of length of session in a swimming pool
can a toddler handle before getting tired?

It all depends. Jessica, 22 months, could spend hours sitting at the edge of
the lake playing in the water. Jumped off the raft with me catching her for
30 minutes straight. Every day she asked, "I go to the waft?" She loved the
water all summer long.

We went until the boys got to cold or crabby. Sometimes that was 1/2 hour,
sometimes an hour or more.
I would think even 15minutes of pool time would induce a nap in his
pushchair. I'd plan it so that that counts as his nap. :)

I'm taking Jamie, age 21 months, for his first swimming pool experience
tomorrow (at least, I hope I am - I planned to go last Tuesday, but had
to change plans when the boiler broke and the pool shut down!) I'd
planned on making it about 15 - 20 minutes, although obviously I'll play

I think 15 minutes sounds good. You want to leave before his lips
turn blue and his fingers get pruney.

it by ear - I want to stop before he's getting tired so that he leaves
with good memories of it, and I really don't want him falling asleep in
his pushchair on the way back, since that will then mess up his nap. DH

Lots of luck - I think if I were to bet you that he would fall asleep
on the way back, I'd make whatever money you were willing to put up
that he wouldn't. IOW, I'm practically positive that he WILL fall
asleep on the way back even if the time is only 15 or 20 minutes in
the pool.

didn't think that sounded like very much time, and I was curious as to
what other people thought.

I think you are thinking about it a little too much. :) You'll know in a
couple of seconds whether or not he likes it, and that will form his
impressions. Not too much time in the pool. Just roll with it.
Have fun.

We go to a heated pool and DD2 (19 months) can easily splash around for an
hour or more, it totally depends of the temp of the water and the child.
They will soon let you know when they have had enough.
