Ok... you can probably guess what happened from the subject line, but
less than a week after we bought Kivi the child-safety scissors, she

We haven't had one yet, but my nieces did! Alas, my SIL didn't take
pics, so I never got to see - just the cute pixie cuts they got
afterwards.
However, ds did cut up one of his t-shirts once. :(

Well, if we're talking about cutting things OTHER than hair, then I have to
admit that my oldest cut his finger nearly to the bone with a pair of
scissors when he was about 4.5yo. THAT incident led to 6+ hours of waiting
in the ER (it was a Sunday) and 8 stitches, IIRC.

cut all of the front/top of her hair off. One spot down to the scalp -
she has a tiny bald spot about the size of the end of my pinky.
So... all those beautiful curls are now gone. We took her to the hair
stylist, who cut and layered the rest of her hair, so that the front
can grow in more gracefully. So she has a short-curly cut right now.
The silver lining? I can get a comb through her hair with no effort at
all.

Thanks to everyone for their comments. I'm a bit more used to her hair
now, and I do agree that it's cute, and combing it so easily is
WONDERFUL. Only drawbacks? Her cowlicks are much more in evidence (I
have a ton of them myself), and she gets bedhead so easily now... I
wet her hair in the morning, and it dries looking good, then after her
nap, it looks like it did after she woke up in the morning. Hats also
wreak havok on her hair, too.
I'm really not as vain as it's probably sounding here, and it *is* a
nice change. I just wish that if it had to happen, it had happened
AFTER Christmas! :-)

Just wanted to mention that the correct phrase is "RITE of passage".
Now back to the discussion of kids cutting their hair ...

on a Saturday afternoon. School pictures were being taken
on Monday (and she had previously gotten a trim a few days
before, which is where she got the idea, I think). A
frantic call to my stylist got us a last minute Saturday
afternoon appointment and a new short do.
Like Kivi, Emma was actually really cute in the short
hair.
2 other kids in her class have done it too. We now have
a mantra- we ask; What do you cut? She replies: Paper
not hair!

Well, Momma, her wanted her hair cut! ;)
LOL...sorry but I am giggling. I did the same exact thing to my curls
when I was 4. Ended up with a "Pixie" cut just like Kivi's! She looks
adorable with her short 'do!
