I would like to buy a present for a ten-year old relative whom I don't
actually know at all. She lives in Europe and I expect she'd enjoy
receiving something that's popular with American girls of her age. I
need to send it to her by air mail, so it needs to be reasonably small.
Any suggestions?

My DD11 and 13 are having a blast with this book:
Generation T: 108 Ways to Transform a T-Shirt
They've taken all the freebie XL tees in the house and cut them up into
new fashions. Many of the ideas require no sewing. It would be easy to
mail straight from Amazon.
The ideas in the book would also be useful for a birthday party craft
project.

Many thanks for your help!

How much money do you want to spend?
Many girls that age love the American Girl dolls, but they are very
expensive.
One tells me that all of the girls in his class (9 year olds) have
Tamagotchis.
What about a silver charm bracelet with a charm from your locale, or
something else quintissentially (sp -- sorry) American like the Liberty
Bell or Statue of Liberty, like this
(I found this on web-search -- I know nothing about them.)
I have a son, so I can't come up with anything else.
