My daughter is 2.5 years old. We started potty training about 2 months
ago. She would go to pee on here potty every now and then. One day,
she had to poop in her potty. And she smelled it(made her gag). Since
then, she has
not used her potty. It's as if she now associates using her potty and
gagging.
Any suggestions?

There are non-toxic, non-aerosol room sprays that are quite nice
smelling. I use a pineapple one (rather expensive) to keep my bedroom
smelling good when it's too cold to open windows. It smells nice and
not at all like those old bathroom sprays that smell like old aunts
houses :-)
Is there a window in the bathroom? If so, you might keep that open
where she uses the potty. How about one of those little kid perfumes
or maybe a splash of your own on her wrist (so she smells like mommy)
to distract her? Or perhaps having something in the bathroom to do
(like look through a book for instance) to distract her.
I'm one of those "smell" people too with an easily disturbed stomach (I
get nauseated very easily). I've always been terribly sensitive to
smells of any sort. Growing up in NY, I remember going to Italian
restaurants that used to have a bowl of parmesan cheese on the tables.
That smell made me gag. Sometimes if my husband comes home after
eating in a fast food restaurant ( I avoid those placeslike the
plague), the smell on him makes my stomach churn a bit.
Hopefully your daughter will change, but it's a real issue for some of
us. Maybe go shopping with her and have her smell a few scents of
anything (even a little body cream maybe to rub on her hands while
going to the bathroom?). I'd go to a health food store and buy some
natural stuff without the dyes, additives, etc. since she is so young.
Good luck...I really feel for her on a personal level :-)

Have you tried using a potty ring that fits on your toilet? If she
goes in that, the smell isn't as bad since the poo falls in the water
and she can flush it away.
