I ended up getting a well child visit with a different doctor so we could be
seen sooner, rather than see our own doctor for two separate visits, as I've
only seen her once anyway, I wasn't bothered.
I got the antifungal cream and it appeared to work, but initially we weren't
also using a barrier cream and there was an increase in generalised redness,
so we've been using both, the rash has become slightly more wide spread, but
was clearly drying out and by today was fully dry, so it's just a case of
keep on doing what we are doing, though the doctor doesn't think it actually
is fungal, but doesn't recommend stopping the cream either!

Sometimes I get a rash and irritation in the same general area. I am not
sure if it is fungal or just irritation. Either way, the cream seems to help
greatly. I think the stuff in the cream has a soothing effect on irritated
skin.
Besides, the cream is safe to use. It's working. Why stop?

Turns out she has an ear infection and neither of us had any idea, she is
clearly teething and in the absence of any visible gunk in the ears we put
grumpiness down to that. This now gives me concern that she may have had
multiple ear infections. Anyway we go back after a course of amoxicillin
(hmm, what will that do to the diaper rash!) to have her ears checked again.
I think they will want to keep a close eye on them as she has a significant
speech delay as she has no words and is almost 19mths. However all other
signs don't indicate any hearing loss, our theory is that she's so
communicative with eyes and actions and body language that she has less need
for words, we feel she communicates better than our DS at the same age who
had met the relevant number of words milestones. We tried to do baby signing
with her, in just the same way as we did with DS, yet she has never used
any, I've no idea what the mechanism is that would cause a child to learn
them and whether or not that would be related to early speech. She babels
and mimics, just doesn't actually say anything reliably, I really am pretty
convinced that she is just slow, but I can't help but having a slight niggle
in my mind that maybe it is something more significant.
