Overcoming bug fear??

KR...
We live in a rural area and there are lots of flies, spiders, and other
bugs around our house. This summer my daughter (32 months) is
terrified of them even though I have always tried to bring her
attention to bugs I would find, and tell her whatever I do know about
them.

Maybe she wouldn't notice them if you don't bring her attention to them?
Just a thought. If you swat them away nonchalantly, she might do the same.
Or, you could go looking for pretty bugs like butterflies and ladybugs.
Maybe it could spark an interest. Other than that, I dunno. Maybe she
could be overwhelmed by them to the point of not caring. That's happened to
me, though I only had a dislike, not a fear of bugs.

Welches...
For me (I hate spiders) that is counterproductive. It's something about the
way they move and nothing you can tell me about how fascinating they are
will change the fact they give me the creeps. Yes, they may not be able to
hurt me, and I may be much bigger than them, but it doesn't change how I
feel about them. And if you bring my attention to them, then I know they're
there too!
The way I find most helpful is for you remove any large bugs you know she
will notice, and any that she points out, however small they are, with no
fuss at all. If you make a fuss ("it won't hurt you, so I'm not moving it")
then I know it's there and it gets bigger in my mind. If you just remove it
then I feel secure that I can cope with some because you won't make a fuss
about removing ones I can't cope with.
And one of the most irritating arguments is: "well, it's gone under there so
you can't see it, so you can forget about it" because you can't forget about
it, and worse, it might come out at any time.

We went to the park yesterday and she wouldn't go on any of her
favorite slides, swings, etc. since there were spider webs full of
mosquitoes everywhere. I don't want bugs to ruin her summer fun, and
they are impossible to avoid here. I tell her she is a brave girl and
bigger then the bugs so she can just walk past them, but so far she's
very much afraid of almost every insect we've come across.

Any ideas? Will this go away or will she be terrified when she's older
as well??
