ok, my toddler, who is our third daughter, will get real tired, then real
fussy, and then start biting my shoulder and sometimes banging her head
into my shoulder. any experiences like this?

sounds like you have identified the series of signals she gives you when she
needs to sleep. If you can put her to nap/bed when she starts getting fussy
you will have listened to her, avoided the banging and biting, and probably
given her more of the sleep she sounds like she needs. One wonders why you
have allowed her to go through this cycle often enough to have identified
it? Does she progress rapidly through these signals, do they tend to occur
when you are not in a place to allow her to nap? If you have been operating
under the theory that keeping her awake until a certain time will help her
sleep better, you may want to re-evaluate that. If she is not getting
enough sleep she will be much less likely to comply with normal behavioral
expectations and will be more likely to need more naps more often. Check
out her hours of sleep. Most kids about 2-3 years old need a whole lot more
sleep than most adults - more like 11 hours/day.

That's not a tantrum - that's her way of saying "Put me to bed, NOW!"

How old is she? A toddler, but exactly how old? Sounds like she's just
sleepy..?

Nan...
If she does this when she's tired, she's telling you she's tired and
wants to go to sleep!
