This came up on another board and I thought it might be fun to get
people's ideas on it.
I tend to use a lot of things for purposes other than those the
manufacturer had in mind. I do it even more now that I have kids.

** they aren't pots and pans - - they are drums and cymbals
** They aren't wrapping paper rolls - - they are swords or lightsabers
** they aren't pillow cases - - they are suitcases for "running away",
storage containers for 1000 toys, belts, sword sheaths, etcetera.
** They aren't boxes, they are ANYTHING in the world that the imagination
can create.
** They aren't sticks they are swords, light sabers, walking sticks,
pitchforks, bows for shooting imaginary arrows into
buffalo/bison/elk/whatever they are currently hunting.
** They aren't sheets and chairs and the table they are teepee's with
indians inside, they are army tents during WWII (I have a WWII obscessed
nephew), they are humvees, tanks, jeeps, dump trucks...
** They aren't rocks they are ammo, Indian serving dishes, food
** And lastly They aren't siblings - - They are an indian chief and
Pocahontas, they are Buzz Lightyear and Mary who had a little lamb, Superman
and Wonder Woman, a movie director and an actor playing 40 parts, two
members of a rock band, Colonel Mustard and Miss Scarlett, they know so well
how to pretend to be anything in their minds.

accessories.
o baby bottle - it's a liquid measuring cup for science experiments.
o bed tray / desk - it's a regular desk for a kid to sit at.
o aluminum foil - it's an entire dollhouse! As a kid, I made a
complete set of furniture, walls, and people for a Xerox paper box
dollhouse.
o Kleenex - it's a wardrobe for a fashion doll! Again, something I did
as a kid. It came to a tragic end when a friend spilled a glass of
water on it.
o multi-colored tape - it's SANDALS! These also came to a tragic end
when I tried to climb a tree wearing them. They shredded into little
itty bitty strips.
o straw wrappers - they're trains! I draw trains on them and ds can
run them around on the table or a traintrack on a napkin at
restaurants.
Adding
straws - they can be bubble blowers, we cut them up to use on

Hey, Dorothy! Did you ever use a green onion as a bubble blower? You
need the long green top from a scallion. Slice the bottom of it in
about 4ths or 6ths -- making a slice from the edge about an inch in.
Put it in a glass of water so it curls up ( I haven't done this in years
and don't remember how long it takes). There you have it. Make sure
you've trimmed the other end of your 'straw' so you can blow your
bubble. Dip the curled end into soap bubble solution and blow. No
money? Make your own fun! LOL! I might plant a few onions this spring
so Small Child can have some fun.

collages, we use them to make *sticks* for stop signs or other signs

you can also make whistles from straws (or the chiclet gum
boxes, or my favorite: dandelion flower stalks)
toothpicks, matchsticks & popsicle sticks: more sign posts,
building material for 'log' cabins, boxes, lamps, etc (see
'tramp' art or hobo art). also good for doll furniture (fairy
furniture in our house).

I made a dolls bunk bed out of lolly sticks when I was little.
Dh thought pasta was entirely for artwork because they never ate it.
Old CDs/DVDs make good coasters/ christmas decorations.
Our letter box is called "my little window" by #2. (she blocks it open with
her building bricks then looks out)
Pans can be good drums. (with wooden spoons for beaters) or pan lids for
cymbals.
The sofa back is apparently a good slide (down) or a tightrope (across)

If you take the cushions off and drape a sheet across the sofa, you have
a fort. Or a tunnel. Or a cave.

Lightbulbs make good spinning tops (adult supervision required)
