frackshat...
I'm looking for a 4-poster bed somewhere in Melbourne. I would prefer
an antique, but if that is too expensive (it probably is) then I would
consider something more modern...Does anyone know of any shops that
specialise in that sort of thing?

I have tried normal furniture shops and bedding shops without any
success at all.

Any ideas? Thanks...

razorcat...
I was out at Casey Auction Group at Hallam on the weekend and they had a
huge four poster for auction. Not sure if there was more than one or if they
sell direct to public as I wasn't the one buying. Here's their link

david syber...
If you want to get ripped off try the Heidelberg rd antiques centre.

otherwise try the Melbourne trading post

frackshat...
No I don't particularly want to get ripped off, but thanks for the
suggestion... I will look into it and try to find something that is not
too much of a rip-off. I have looked in the Trading Post before, but I
suppose items like this don't come up all that often!

Johann Vernkibkad...
The trick is to fit a four-poster bed frame to a really good mattress and
base. If you buy antique bed frame you have to make the mattress and base
fit. That can cost a lot as mattresses come in standard sizes.
Do you have estate sales there? I got a beautiful queen size solid
cherry pencil post bed at an estate sale for about 1/3rd what it would
cost new.

werdan...
I saw some poor sods trying to load one into a trailer out the front of
Early Settler in Mitcham last Saturday. :-)

Ben Thomas...
Does anyone here actually like the furniture sold in Early Settler?

werdan...
I like the old fashion styled furniture they sell except

a/ I don't live in a house that suits.
b/ Their build quality is pretty rough around the edges (Indo imports?)
c/ Their ticket prices are rather exorbitant.

Ticket prices and actual prices can vary greatly though. Since I haven't
actually bought anything there I can't say if their pricing is reasonable.

Ms Leebee...
I don't mind some of the stuff i've seen in catalogues.
What I might like in catalogues may not necessarily be what I buy though.

I enjoy the modern decor of new display homes too - but that's not my home
either.

*shrug*

All depends on where you live, who you are, what you already own .. how you
accessorise, etc etc

( I know people that buy Early Settler style and do *tizzy* - I can't stand
tizzy ... dried flower arrangements, doilies etc - F.O. .. I also can't
stand severe minimalist. However, you can modern up old looking stuff, you
can soften the overly-modern and etc. It's all about balance, IMO )

As long as you are happy.

I like my style .. i'm sure everyone else thinks their poo is the
non-stinkiest too ;)

Linda H...
Exactly. Whilst my (current) house is mainly modern/contemporary, I
like to always put one very old piece in with the modern.

I sense I reckon you know how to decorate, Ms Leebee.

Linda H...
Ah, but that's not the question, is it, Ben? I mean, if someone asked
if we knew where to get Mandarines Marinated In Poop and I had seen some
somewhere I still might tell.

Luke Webber...
A four poster? Franco Cozzo would be my bet. Tacky furniture is his
specialty.

frackshat...
I think I am detecting a hint of sarcasm in your message. Obviously I
do not want anything tacky... and I don't think that such beds fall
into that category, although obviously they can be! I think that is

Luke Webber...
My apologies. I shouldn't project my tastes onto others. I tend to find
four-posters more than a little precious.

why I originally suggested I would like something antique, as
traditional furniture seems to be more stylish than a lot of modern
furniture. I generalise.

Luke Webber...
If you go for an antique, I imagine (though I'm not certain you'll need
12' ceilings. That could be limiting.

Suffice to conclude that I probably won't advance upon your suggestion.
Thanks for offering it though.

Luke Webber...
Poor old Franco misses out again.

P.S. :-)

Luke Webber...
Right back atcha.

Ms Leebee...
I've seen them at Early Settler on the Maroondah Hwy, Blackburn.
