I'm just gearing up to do an Estate appraisal, they're sometimes like
that old story about the little boy looking at a room full of horse
manure and running back with shovel shouting, "There's got to be a pony
in there somewhere ;~) Last time round I found a nice little bit stuffed
way back in a buffet, same vintage as this one.

Oh, I love toast racks. But I've always been curious - do the Brits
really eat their toast cold?
Kris Baker...
|
It helps keep the beer warm.

I don't know about the Brits, but up here in the frozen tundra of North
Dakota, virtually every locally owned restaurant has baskets of cold
hard toast as an appetizer??? Maybe a Scandinavian thing? And butter.
Butter on *everything*. I’ve seen people dip French fries in butter.

My room mate from many, many (more than I care to admit) years ago used
to dip French fries in mayo. My sister still dips them in butter. I'm a
purist, I just eat them as is - on the rare occasion my cholesterol
levels will allow me to have them!

Well considering you have about 60 seconds to butter it before it gets
cold, I guess most of us do ;~) I chuck myrack in the oven if I can't
eat the toast immediately.

Warmed butter, painted on with a paintbrush. Really. Doesn't leave
"toast turds" in the butter, doesn't tear up the bread, keeps it warm.

I guess you don't have the toaster, it's a cool set.

Kris...... I was out of action for a few days, so if someone else found
this pic:

I've put three images and a short description here:
Is it a glass shelf?
Part of an ashtray/server insert?
I liked the Art Deco "logo", and they were only asking ten cents....

I've seen those on cigarette stands, one on each side of the
'handle'... imo

That's what I thought....but it doesn't look like it has a place
for the cigarette. Just those tiny jagged edges.
Thanks! Kris

It's part of a cheese and cracker set: you're missing the cracker half
(it's not divided). Then both pieces go together in a "silver" tray.

That was my thought too.

Got one for my first wedding in '75. Can't remember who made it and
left it behind with the other "goodies" from his family. Knowing them,
it could have been "vintage" (read "used"), so the dating might be off
as well.
