The Meissen mark has been widely copied, but in this case they are the
real deal, but made around 1900.

to me said its from the late 1800's, and that it is a mantlepiece. It
seems to be made out of some type of metal, because of the sound made
when hit with a fingernail. Was the old woman I bought it from
truthful? How much would it be worth?

Sorry, should have said 'Cody'
Here is a picture of the same statue made into a table lamp.
Price of the lamp looks like $960. without the shade!
Mind you, it may NOT be the same statue, but it most surely is the same
rendering of it!

A mantlepiece is the shelf above the mantle, unless the
"old woman" meant something that you put on that shelf.
I don't think it's that old, and whoever painted it with gold paint,
should be shot. Notice how the paint has dripped, and isn't
sprayed very well on the bottom (look at those up-and-down
lines on the bottom edge). Is that fuzz stuck to the rear edge?
If so, it was painted very recently. Like within the past week.
Are there any markings underneath? What does the bottom
look like?
Rather than us telling you what we think it's worth, maybe
you should tell us why you thought you could pay $45 for it
and make money.

Worthless. It certainly isn't from 1800 anything - look at how poorly
cast the thing is. Even through the paint you can see the pitting, lack
of detail and seams everywhere. And the base isn't even flat. It's
probably less than 20 years old. Looks like you bought yourself a cheap
cast iron reproduction of "something", made only worse by the gold
paint. No inherent value - with or without the gold paint. You got
royally ripped off at $45.00. Then again, you shouldn't have bought it
to begin with. These reproductions are absolute junkers.

But look how much he learned for $45. First thing being that sweet little
old ladies can be dangerous especially when they think they are telling the
truth!
I recently sold a first edition, first state 'Di Vinci Code' for $15. Now
that learning curve was expensive!
