I have a copper can on ebay now that has a sight glass and looks turn
of the century or older. My question is whether it is an oil or gas
can. I am thinking that oils gas or kerosene would eat through most
sealers/mastic available at that time to seal the glass to the copper.
Then if not for oil or gas, what would it be used for/ it holds 3
qts../her is a link

Your link doesn't seem to work, but I remember seeing these as a kid and
the glass was sealed with a lead gasket.

Finally got your link to work. Given the large open top, I don't think
it would be for gas. Doesn't look like anything I've ever seen for oil
either, but looks more like a measuring/pouring device that would be
used in an industrial mixing application.
Was there any residue inside the container? If so, what did it
look/smell like?
