MIL gifted us with some interesting photographs and papers. While
looking at what was in the treasure trove of family history, I came
across a tin type. It's not old, guessing from the ages of GMIL & GFIL
in the photo, and attire I'd guess it to be from the late 1960s or
early 1970s. It was taken in Lansing, Michigan, have to love notes
included with things. Was this the 60s and 70s equal of donning
American wild west attire and having a sepia tone photo taken?

This isn't the highlight, but it struck my curiosity. I'm much more
enamoured with GMILs OSS service records and photos of her in Europe
durring the war.

Hi Jessica,

Sorry, I don't know about tin types.

I do know what you mean about looking at the old photos. When my parents
passed away (with in 7 month of each other!) I took all the old family
photos, my siblings were going th throw them out! If you're interested,
and have nothing better to do, go to:
and see a PDF of some of the ones I like the best. I love the clothes
and hair!

Start replying and out goes the cable. We're getting a Nor'Easter in
Maine today, no snow but heavy rain and wind we have.

Good looking family Marie. Thanks for sharing, old photos are so much
fun. I've been known to take along laptop and all-in-one printer when
visiting the my great aunts and uncles so that I can get copies of old
family photos, and take notes on who/where/when. I love looking for
who looks like who, as well as the clothing, hair, and hats. I have
some really neat ones of my maternal grandfather's mother when she was
teaching on a reservation near Laramie, Wyoming in the late 1880s.

Thanks Jessica,

One fun thing I did with them was make table tents for a family party. I
layed out the photos on my computer and printed them on an 11x17 piece
of paper, mounted that to thin board and cut it out. Then I folded it in
3rds and glued one end closed. This made a tall 3-sided photo collage. I
made 3 of them, each with different photos, and placed them on the
table. Everyone kept passing them around and remembering when and where
they were taken. It was a big success.
