Coin purse

I have a small gold chain mail coin purse given to me by my mother who
received it from her mother in law. I have been trying to find any
information about it that I can on the internet, with no luck. I was
wondering if anyone here could shed some light on the subject. It is
round, about 1 5/8 inches diameter with a very fine gold chain handle
with a small loop in the middle at the top. I have a photo (about 18k)
but wasn't sure about the policy of posting photos on this site. I could
shrink it down to make it smaller if needed.

Anyone that might be able to help me?

Additional info on the item. My Mother got this from the wife of
William Hale Thompson, Mayor of Chicago (elected in the 20's).

I was incorrect in my first post that stated that my Mother got this
from her mother in law. She got it from the sister of her mother in law.
I believe that Bill Thompson's wifes name was May and that is who my
mother got it from.
