I am a lurker and I have a question about springs. The chair is between 30
or40 years old and is made by I think Hickory Fry. We bought it new and have
used it for all these years. It has been re-upholstered about three times.
Something happened with the springs and we took the bottom cloth off and
there is a broken spring. My question is, is this an expensive thing to
have fixed? Since the wire is broken it will need to be replaced. If
anyone could give an opinion I would be very appreciative.

You didn't say what kind of spring, or chair it is....but it's not
expensive. You might be able to do it yourself. This place
sells to the public and has a wide variety available:
If nothing there looks like what you need, web-search
"upholstery supplies" springs
and see what else pops up.

Thank you so much. We looked at the site and my husband thinks it is a
torsion spring. Will it be hard for two people who have very little skills
to fix? Are there special tools we need? That is a great site and I
bookmarked it.

I'm generally the "site finder", and am tool-impaired. But we've got
some great folks here who'll know what to do.
