I guess This answers my question as to what happens to various collections
when the owner dies.
He makes his survivors rich. Ha!
see below:
EXTENSIVE CARD COLLECTION FOUND IN BOSTON
Police in Boston discovered an extensive collection of trading cards they
say could be worth up to $1 million in the condemned home of a man who
recently died. John Hessian, 83, had lived alone in the home for most of his
life. The collection, stored in 400-500 boxes, included football and hockey
cards dating to the 1940s.
Workers for a commercial cleaning crew discovered the cards after clearing
out piles of trash, some of which were reportedly six feet high. Four
truckloads of the cards were removed from the house last week. Hessian also
had some valuable cards stored in a safe deposit box in an unknown location.
Hessian's closest surviving family members, two cousins, will likely
determine the fate of the collection.

Wow.
Maybe we all ought to try to get adopted by hoarders.

I married into a family of them. It's not quite as easy as that... you've
got to find people who are hoarding good stuff, and not old newspapers and
rubber bands and condiment packets from Taco Bell.... ; )
